PURPOSE:To facilitate the discrimination of a page header text and a message displayed on a display screen by displaying a foreground color of the message in a color different from the color of a header text dislay area. CONSTITUTION:In activating a message generation ROM 4 in response to a processing code output from a character signal processing circuit 2 and a message foreground color signal from a foreground color selection circuit 6, a pattern data corresponding to the message and its foreground color (different from a page header text display area color) is written in a display memory 7. Thus, the message foreground color different from the color if the page header text display area is displayed on the CRT display device 9. Thus, the discrimination whether the data displayed on the screen is the message or the page header text is facilitated from their foreground color.
