PURPOSE:To omit the consideration given to the setting direction of a special card by forming a bisymmetrical hole at the center of the special card to secure discrimination of the special card regardless of the setting direction of said card. CONSTITUTION:A special card 15 has its right and left sides and upper and lower surface sides all set adverse to a general card. An up-down and right-left symmetrical hole 17 is formed at the center of the card 15 together with a magnetic stripe 13 provided on the back side. Then a card processor sets 18 two cards 12 and 14 at each prescribed position and decides whether these cards have holes or not. Then the processor reads the stripe 13 when no card containing a hole is confirmed. If the processor is unable to read the contents of the stripe 13, the processor treats the relevant card as a special card 24. In such a way, a special card is decided in case said card has a center hole 17 and the reading of the stripe 13 is impossible or the contents of the stripe 13 if read show a special card. Thus it is possible to discriminate a special card regardless of the setting direction of said card.
