PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of picture quality in advance by applying still reproduction from other recording track having an azimuth angle when one recording track having an azimuth angle remained unerased by a flying erase head is caused. CONSTITUTION:In the timing where main heads 1A, 1B are at fall points P0, P10 of recording tracks PTA1, PTB1, flying erase heads 4A, 4B are set so as to scan with preceding over by 495 deg. to the main heads 1A, 1B on the phase location of l35 deg. of adjacent recording tracks PTA3, PTB3 having one recording track inbetween. Thus, the flying erase heads 4A, 4B erase the old recording information by recording an erase signal with an azimuth angle opposite to the azimuth angle of video information recorded on the recording patterns PTA3, PTB3 at all times.
