PURPOSE:To obtain a high-sensitivity, high-density organic optical recording medium capable of obtaining high C/N through irradiation with low-output laser beam, by providing a recording medium comprising a metal complex of a specified nitroso compound. CONSTITUTION:This optical recording midium comprises a base and a recording layer, which layer comprises a metal complex of a nitroso compound of general formula (1). The metal for forming the complex with the nitroso compound is particularly preferably an element selected from iron, cobalt, nickel and copper. The complex of such a metal generally has an absorption maximum wavelength on the longer wavelength side of the absorption maximum wavelength of the nitroso compound itself, end also has a molar extinction coefficient increased from that of the nitroro compound itself, so that the complex efficiently absorbs recording laser beam to bring about photo-thermal conversion. Therefore, the metal complex can be suitably used. The metal complex of the nitroso compound can be obtained by, for example, bringing at least one nitroso compound mentioned above into reaction with at least one salt of the metal mentioned above, in water and/or an organic solvent. |
