PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording meidum having excellent mass- producibility and weatherability, high sensitivity and favorable signal quality, by providing a recording layer comprising a selenium layer, a lead layer, a tellurium layer and a selenium layer sequentially provided on a base. CONSTITUTION:An optical recording medium comprises a base and a recording layer provided thereon, and information is recorded by selectively removing a part of the recording layer by laser beam The recording layer is provided by sequentially providing a selenium layer 2, a lead layer 3, a tellurium layer 4 and a selenium layer 5 on the base 1. It is desirable the viewpoints of recording and reproduction characteristics and weatherability that the thicknesses of the selenium layers 2, 5 are 5-100 Angstrom , the thickness of the tellurium layer 4 is 100-500 Angstrom , and the thickness of the lead layer 3 is 1-50 Angstrom . With the lead layer 3 provided between the tellurium layer 4 and the selenium layer 2, pits formed are prevented from being broadened, so that high-density recording can be performed, and allowance for variations in recording power is increased. |
