PURPOSE:To enable the condition of a document stored to be recognized without performing unnecessary printing, by indicating the number of lines stored through moving a carriage part comprising a printing head. CONSTITUTION:A first mode for storing an inputted document without printing it at the time of inputting and a second mode for printing document information are provided. Also provided is a controlling means for moving a carrier so as to indicate the line position at which the inputted document is being stored when the first mode is selected by operating a mode-switching means 21. With this construction, a carrier indicator 32 indicating a printing position in the printing mode can be used for indicating the current number of lines stored of the document being stored in the storing mode.
