PURPOSE:To automatically index the size of a straw mat by measuring an optional point position on each side part of a room. CONSTITUTION:A measurement part 8 consists of a base 8 and an arm 10 fitted to the base 8 horizontally rotatably by a shaft part 9a, the arm 10 have three arm members 10a-10c coupled successively by shaft parts 9b and 9c horizontally rotatable, and a probe 11 which contacts points of respective side parts 4a, 4b... to be measured is provided atop of the outermost arm 10c. Then, an arithmetic part divides the room by reference lines which are a straight line parallel to a straight line passing two points P1 and P2 of a specific side part of the room R measured by a measurement part 6 and a straight line crossing said straight line, and also computes the sizes of respective mats on the basis of the positions of points measured by the measurement part 6. Consequently, the sizes of mats are automatically indexed.
