PURPOSE:To control the temps. at the top and bottom of a distillation column so as to quickly and smoothly attain target temps. in the control of said column of said column by inputting the temp. measurement data at the top and bottom of the column to a titled device and estimating the tray temps. of the respective stages of the trays of the distillation column by the Kalman filter. CONSTITUTION:A condenser 2 is provided at the top of the distillation column 1 and the fraction condensed therein is accumulated in an accumulator 3 and thereafter, part thereof is taken out to form a low boiling component product. The temps. T1 and T2 at the top and bottom of the distilltion column 1 are first measured and the data thereof are estimated by the Kalman filter, by which the temp. Ti, liquid hold up volume li and steam hold up volume V1 of the respective stages of the column 1 are determined. The feedback manipulated variables of the reflux flow rate and steam flow rate are determined by using the values thereof and the control is executed until the temps. at the top and bottom of the column attain the prescribed temps.
