The apparatus comprises at least one grating (1, 2, 3) of modulators (4). The modulators of a grating are arranged in parallel lines and cover the surface of a plane which is approximately perpendicular to the axis of the radiation beam (5). Each grating can be offset angularly around the beam axis.
