PURPOSE:To shorten a period to a stop without causing a stepper motor to vibrate at a designated position by regulating the timing of energizing an electromagnetic brake in response to the number of steps. CONSTITUTION:A number-of-steps judging unit 13 inputs an operation step number command signal, and judges the number of steps to operate next. A controller 14 controls a drive 9 to hold the energized state of an electromagnetic brake when the next number of steps judged by the unit 13 is a predetermined number or lower and to provide a pause period of the energization and then again excites the brake when the number of steps exceeds a predetermined number. Thus, when energized again, a braking torque is applied due to the brake on the midway of stepwise feeding to momentarily stop the motor. |
