PURPOSE:To prevent degradation of the surface of a light receiving member by using a diamond-like carbon thin film containing at least one of H or halogen and a valence electron controller as a surface protective layer. CONSTITUTION:A photoconductive layer 102 and the surface protective layer 103 of the diamond-like carbon thin film containing at least one of H or halogen are formed in this order on a support 101, and this layer 103 has a free surface 107. The addition of at least one of H or halogen permits the noncombined valence of the diamond-like carbon to be compensated and the surface protective layer 103 very few in defect to be obtained. The addition of the valence electron controller to the thin film 103 permits accumulation of electric charge in the layer 103 after imagewise exposure to be prevented and occurrence of residual potential and image flow to be effectively avoided. |
