The invention comprises acyl hydrazones of the formula R-NH-N = R1 wherein R is an acyl radical of a carboxylic acid, R1 is a diene quinone mono-adduct, linked to the hydrazono nitrogen atom by replacement of one oxygen in the quinone system. The products are made by reacting the diene-quinone adduct with a carboxylic acid hydrazide, preferably in an aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic medium at 0-70 DEG C. The quinone-diene adducts are, for example, the adducts of butadiene, isoprene, 2:3 - dimethylbutadiene, 2 - chlorobutadiene, cyclopentadiene or cyclohexadiene with p-benzoquinone or p-naphthoquinone. The acyl hydrazides may suitably be hydrazides of acetic, adipic, benzoic, pyromucic or isonicotinic acid. Products obtained from basic acyl hydrazides, e.g. from pyridine-carboxylic acid hydrazides may be isolated either as the free bases or as their acid addition salts. Examples describe the preparation of the N1-benzoyl-, N1-pyromucyl- and N1-isonicotinyl-, derivatives of 5 : 8-endomethylene - 4a:5:8:8a - tetrahydro - 1:4-naphthoquinone-hydrazone; and the N1-isonicotinyl derivatives of 4:5:8:8a-tetrahydro1:4 - naphthoquinone - hydrazone, 1:4 - endomethylene 1 : 4 : 4a : 9a - tetrahydroanthraquinone-hydrazone and 1:4:4a:9a-tetrahydroanthraquinone-hydrazone. |
