PURPOSE:To improve combustion in a main combustion chamber so as to restrain the discharge of smoke, unburnt aldehyde and unburnt methanol by forming a projected shelf for guiding flame into the main combustion chamber at the upper end of the opening of an auxiliary combustion chamber. CONSTITUTION:Fuel supplied from a fuel injection nozzle 12 into an auxiliary combustion chamber 4 is vaporized by the compressed air to generate combustible air-fuel mixture. Since the combustible air-fuel mixture is restrained from flowing out to a main combustion chamber 3 by a bank part 5 in this auxiliary combustion chamber 4, air-fuel ratio is kept at the specified value. Then the flame generated by the rapid combustion, which is executed by the discharge of an ignition pluge 30 in the auxiliary combustion chamber 4, is restrained by a shelf part 10 and restrained from releasing into a squish area, therefore it is rapidly guided into the main combustion chamber 3 through a communication passage 7. Hereby the flame is propagated to the air-fuel mixture and the fuel spray layer in the main combustion chamber 3 and the combustion in the main combustion chamber 3 becomes favorable. |
