<p>The nigh-light is encased in a rigid case (1) of plastics material which has a rear shell with integral mains plug. The front of the unit is covered by a transparent plastics cap (4). Behind the lower part of the cap is a filament lamp (5) mounted in a socket (6) at the focus of a light reflector (11). Behind the lamp is a p.c.b. (12) on which are mounted a transformer (13), microphone (8), light-sensitive cell (7) and two LEDs which act as mode indicators (9,10). When the room is in darkness and the child cries or calls out, the microphone output is amplified and used to switch on the lamp. It switches off automatically after a period, e.g. two minutes, following the end of the noise. The sound and ambient light switching levels at which the unit operates can be set using controls on the back of the casing.</p> |
