PURPOSE:To improve the hit ratio of a cache memory and the throughput of a system by forming >=2 cache memories, and switching the cache memories in accordance with space numbers in a virtual space. CONSTITUTION:For instance, four virtual spaces A1-A4 are set up in a main memory M-MEM and four frames C1-C4 corresponding to those virtual spaces A1-A4 are prepared in a cache memory C-MEM. A part of information in the corresponding virtual spaces A1-A4 in the main memory M-MEM are copied in respective frames C1-C4. In addition, page tables PT1-PT4 are formed correspondingly to respective virtual spaces A1-A4 in the main memory M-MEM. Necessity for purging the cache memories C1-C4 is reduced by switching the cache memories C1-C4 in accordance with a space number SN supplied from a CPU.
