PURPOSE:To provide a maintenancefree ignition device by impressing a high-frequency AC voltage on an ignition plug from No.2 ignitor when all specified conditions are satisfied during engine operation, such as at the time of throttle full closing, burning off carbon attached to the ignition plug, and eliminating generation of smoking in the ignition plug. CONSTITUTION:The arrangement includes a No.1 ignition device having an ignition coil 6 and a No.2 ignition device equipped with a No.2 ignition coil 9 in connection with ignition plugs 81 of cylinders and an ignitor 10 to impress high-frequency voltage on the primary side of said ignition coil 9 when all specified conditions are satisfied. If engine operation is carried out with specified conditions satisfied, for ex. during throttle valve fully opened, a signal is given to said No.2 ignitor 10 from an engine control unit ECU 1 so as to emit high-frequency voltage. This is amplified by a piezo element 17 to be impressed on the ignition plug 81 and the carbon attached to the plug 81 is burnt off to accomplish cleanness. Here is no risk of generation of smoking in the ignition plug 81 to ensure that the arrangement is made maintenancefree.
