The drill has a helical boring bit (2) which is driven into the ground (1) to form the cylindrical hole for the pile. When the drill end reaches the desired depth, concrete mixture is forced down the hollow central tube (4) of the drill into the hole. The static pressure at the end of the drill is measured (6). The pressure-related signal is fed to a control circuit (7), together with a depth-related signal (8). The drill is withdrawn (9) under the control of the circuit output. The resultant pile (5) has the same dimensions and density, regardless of the consistency of the ground material.
