PURPOSE:To eliminate generation of dispersion in pilot injection performance by installing a slide guide part of a pilot injection piston in such a way as facing the fuel inlet, preventing change in the pres. receiving area, and thereby stabilizing the behavior. CONSTITUTION:A pilot injection piston 6 of a pilot injection device 32 is equipped with a slide guide part 8, which is fitted slidably with a housing 1, and a shoulder 10 at the end of a larger dia. part 9 formed nearer a tip 3 than said guide part shall contact a step 13 of the housing 1 either directly or through a shim 14. Here a gap 16 is maintained between the slide guide part 8 and housing end wall provided with fuel inlet 2 so that the fuel sent into this gap 16 from a fuel injection pump through the fuel inlet 2 is at all times applied to the whole end face of the slide guide part 8, and thereby the force to push the above-mentioned pilot injection piston 6 is made uniform regardless of movement in the axial direction, which will stabilize motion of the pilot injection piston 6.
