PURPOSE:To obtain sulfur-containing fire-resistant yarn having improved alkali resistance and toughness continuously, by making yarn precursor fire resistant in a hot oxidizing gas atmosphere containing a poisonous gas component. CONSTITUTION:Fire-resistant treatment is continuously advanced by rotating a roller group 3a-3c and a roller group 4a-4c in a fire-resistant furnace 2 while a yarn precursor 1 is alternately passed through chambers B constituting an inert gas atmosphere system 6 surrounding the roller group 3a-3c and the roller group 4a-4c opposingly set and a chamber A constituting an oxidizing poisonous gas atmosphere system 5. The oxidizing poisonous gas atmosphere system 5 is separated from the inert gas atmosphere system 6 by a partition wall 7.
