PURPOSE:To maintain the strength of a welded joint part at a high level by quenching a weld zone with water as a cooling medium so as not to lower the strength of the welded joint part of a heat treatment type aluminum alloy regardless of the plate thickness. CONSTITUTION:Heat treatment type aluminum 1 which is material is set directly in a water tank 2 without excluding the water of the underwater weld zone and a welding rod 4 is pointed to the underwater material 1 from on the water surface to perform the welding. Since the weld zone is quenched with the water as the cooling medium in this way, a part where the temperature rises higher than the solution temperature is immediately cooled and has the same effect as solution-processed again and the strength is restored by leaving it as it is in a chamber afterward. Moreover, since a part where the temperature rises to the overage temperature by the welding heat is also immerdiately quenched by the water, the lowering of the strength due to the overage can be controlled.
