PURPOSE:To prevent the corrosion of a magneto-optical recording medium while suppressing the change of coercive force by constituting protective films of the covalent bond of Si-Al-N, Si-Al-O, Si-Al-O-N, Si-O-N or Al-O-N consisting of Si, Al, O, N. CONSTITUTION:The protective films 2, 4 are consituted of the covalent bond of any among Si-Al-N, Si-Al-O, Si-Al-O-N, Si-O-N or Al-O-N consisting of Si, Al, O, and N and have the properties that all thereof are transparent and have a high refractive index. The content of Si is specified to 0-80atom%, and the content of Al to 0-80atom% in Si-Al-N or Si-Al-O. The content of Si is specified to 0-80atom%, the content of Al to 0-80atom%, the content of 0 to 0-62atom% and the content of N to 0-57atom% in Si-Al-O-N. The content of Si is specified to 0-80atom%, the content of O to 0-62atom% and the content of N to 0-55atom% in Si-O-N. The content of Al is specified to 0-80atom%, the content of O to 0-55atom% and the content of N to 0-45atom% in Al-O-N.
