PURPOSE:To surely discriminate the genuineness of an information memory card by using a discriminating information detecting means of a card genuineness discriminating device to detect the information on a discriminating information part of a card main body and discriminate the card genuineness based on the detecting result of said detecting means. CONSTITUTION:When a user puts his/her card 1 into a card loading part 6, the card 1 is carried up to a position shown by a single-dot chain line by rolls 8a and 8b which are driven by a card driving part 16. Then a polarizing part is stopped temporarily at a position opposite to the optical path of an optical system 7. Under such conditions, the beam light is emitted to a polarizing part 10 in the device from a light emitting element 9 which is controlled by a CPU 12. This beam light is polarized by the part 10 and reaches a polarized part 3. In this case, the light beam is made incident on a light receiving element 11 through the part 3 as long as the polarization patter is identical with the part 10. The element 11 sends the electric signals corresponding to the quantity of the incident light to a deciding part 14 via the CPU 12 as the result of detection.
