PURPOSE:To attempt improvement of efficiency in stacking and transferring a container by placing the container equipped with a slide fitting on rails which are arranged back and forth, and right and left in a hold as specified whereby engaging it selectively with an endless chain of a driving device for transfer. CONSTITUTION:In a hold, a pair of rails 14 is provided in the ship length direction, and a plurality of rails 15 is provided in the ship width direction. And endless chain 20 and 20 which are drivingly travelled by respective driving devices, are arranged along those rails. Then, a slide fitting 23 incorporating plural rows of a pair of rollers which is composed of a plurality of large and small spheres, is installed at four lower corners of a container 13', thereby the container is placed on the trail 14 or 15. Then, a clamp fitting 25 or 25' is selectively engaged with the chain 20 or 22, thereby the container 13' is transferred in the backward and forward, and right and left directions without change in direction of the container. Owing to this constitution, a number of containers can be transferred and stacked efficiently.
