The equipment, which is designed especially for use in telephone exchanges, has a mobile framework (1) on which two frames (4, 5) are mounted at different heights. Each frame is divided into a large frame area (A, B) and a small frame area (a, b). The two larger frame areas (A, B) are of square construction and each have a slot (S) in the central region of their boundary sides, into which slot (S) a supporting cruciform can be inserted for accommodating reels of wire. The square arrangement of the large frame area (A, B) and the central arrangement of the slots (S) allow the supporting cruciform to be used in two different positions, which are offset by 90 DEG with respect to one another. Reels of wire, wire-roll holders, wire-residue containers and storage trays can be inserted detachably into the large and small frame areas as desired. The equipment enables an economical and, in particular, space-saving method of operation and, as a result of its uncomplicated structure, can be produced at relatively little cost. <IMAGE>
