PURPOSE:To produce the title alpha-tricalcium phosphate powder for a high-bulk density dental material by mixing calcium carbonate and calcium secondary phosphate or calcium pyrophosphate in a specified ratio, and allowing the materials to react with each other at high temp. CONSTITUTION:The powder obtained by uniformly mixing CaCO3 powder and CaHPO4 powder in 1/2mol ratio or the powder obtained by uniformly mixing CaCO3 powder and Ca2P2O7 powder in 1/1mol ratio is molded at >=0.1t/cm<2> pressure. The obtained molded body is then subjected to a reaction at >=1,200 deg.C. The baking product is subsequently crushed and classified to obtain the powder contg. >=70wt% powder having 2-32mum particle diameter. Consequently, alpha-Ca3(PO4)2 powder capable of obtained a hardened body having >=1.2 bulk density and high breaking resistance after kneading is obtained.
