PURPOSE:To obtain a phenolic resin molding material having heat resistance and high strength, by mixing a dispersion of a predetermined amount of a bivalent metal compd. in a resol soln. having a specified composition with glass fiber having a specified fiber diameter, etc., drying the mixture and granulating it. CONSTITUTION:0.015-0.06mol (per mol of phenol) of a bivalent metal oxide, hydroxide or salt (e.g., calcium carbonate or magnesium oxide) is dispersed in a resol soln. having a molar ratio of formaldehyde to phenol of 1-3. The dispersion is mixed with 20-100pts.wt. (per 100pts.wt. nonvolatile matter in the dispersion) glass fiber having a fiber diameter of 3-8mu and a fiber length of 1-13mm and optionally, other additives (e.g., a parting agent or a coupling agent). The mixture is dried and granulated to obtain the desired phenolic resin molding material.
