PURPOSE:To prevent a non-image area from becoming lipid-sensitive and improve long preservability by using a printing plate protectant consisting of an aqueous solution containing film-forming cyclodextrin. CONSTITUTION:The preferable content of cyclodextrin in a plate surface protectant is 0.5-40wt%. This cyclodextrin is revolved in water and used as a uniform aqueous solution. Generally the plate surface protectant can be used advantageously if its applicable range of acidity is 3-6pH. In order to obtain the pH value of 3-6, it is recommended that generally mineral acid, organic acid or inorganic salts be added to the plate surface protectant for modification. Their addition should be 0.01-2wt%. Further, a coated layer shows an improved surface condition by adding a surfactant to the plate surface protectant. In addition to the above components, a lower alcohol may be used as a wetting agent, if necessary.
