PURPOSE:To eliminate a skew due to the transition of a track at the time of a video search by prohibiting writing during a period immediately after the change over of a head till the synchronization with a reproducing horizontal synchronizing signal. CONSTITUTION:When the writing operation is started, data of a 1 horizontal scanning period (1H) is written in a memory A. When a head change over signal (SW) is recognized, the writing operation stops and does not move until the next HSYNC comes. When the next HSYNC comes, the data of the next 1H is written in a memory B. The contents of the memory A are read for 1H. During the reading, if the head changeover signal comes, whether the HSYNC comes or not is decided without moving immediately. When the HSYNC comes, the memory is read for the 1H. Then, the contents of the A are repeatedly read for 1H unit until the next HSYNC is recognized. Thereby, the skew produced by the transition of the track of the head can be eliminated.
