PURPOSE:To reduce managing information that a user handles by generating a cross software file in a host computer and defining a cross software ID for a subfile to be stored in this file. CONSTITUTION:A cross software file defining device generates the cross software file 3 in the host computer. Then, subfile information 15 to be stored in this file 3 is given 6 the cross software ID that a target computer can handle. Then, the subfile information 15 is registered in the file 3 by using a cross software file information setting device 5. The cross software ID is referred to for this subfile information 15, thereby identifying the target computer. Then, the subfile information 15 is read out of the file 3 by a cross software file information referring device 10.
