PURPOSE:To improve detection accuracy by increasing the quantity of waves to be received in the absence of an obstacle by a reflecting plate which has two orthogonal surface and increasing the level difference from a reflected wave from a body to be detected. CONSTITUTION:The reflecting plate 1 which has two mutually orthogonal surfaces 1A and 1B formed in an L shape is arranged oppositely to the born 3 of a transmitting and receiving part main body 2. The phase in which an ultrasonic wave from the horn 3 is reflected by the reflecting plate 1 and returns is unchanged regardless of the position of the reflection and even if the reflecting plate 1 is not installed accurately on the center line of the horn 3, the reflected wave returns to the horn 3 accurately. Therefore, the reflected light from the reflecting plate is high in level, so the level difference from the reflected wave from the body to be detected increases and the detection accuracy can be improved.
