PURPOSE:To obtain an amorphous alloy excellent in amorphous thermostability, having high saturation magnetic flux density, and also excellent in soft-magnetic properties, by specifying respective atomic compositional ranges of Co, Nb, Ta, and Zr and also by specifying the atomic compositional range of (Nb+Ta). CONSTITUTION:The thermostable and high magnetic flux density amorphous alloy has a composition represented by a formula CoxNbyTazZrw in which X+Y+Z+W is 100% by atom, X is <=82%, Y is 0.5-12%, Z is 1.5-8.5%, W is <5%, and X+Y is 8.0-13.5%. The amorphous alloy of this invention is a quaternary alloy for magnetic heads excellent in thermal stability even at a temp. as high as 450-500 deg.C, having high saturation magnetic flux density (Ba>=8,000G) suitable for high coercive force media such as metallic tapes, etc., and also having superior soft-magnetic properties. Accordingly, on application of the magnetic heads produced by the use of this alloy, the yield in head working can be improved. |
