PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the titled compound useful as a silylating agent in the field of medicine synthesis, etc., with hardly any by-products without problems of toxicity, by reacting tert-butyldimethylsilane with carbon tetrachloride using a peroxide as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:tert-Butyldimethylsilane is reacted with carbon tetrachloride in the presence of a peroxide, e.g. benzoyl peroxide, etc., normally at 60-90 deg.C for 5-20hr to afford the aimed compound. The reaction is carried out using the carbon tetrachloride in a molar amount of 1.0-3.0 times based on the tert- butyldimethylsilane and the benzoyl peroxide in an amount of 0.1-1wt% based on the tert-butyldimethylsilane.
