PURPOSE:To form the device so that a roller for detecting a position can correctly follow and rotate even for a special original by using the roller in which a core body to constitute the roller for detecting the position of a rigid body is covered with a rubber layer. CONSTITUTION:A roller 2 for detecting a position is provided in a single body through a shaft 2a at both edge parts of the width direction of a device, the roller is pressed to an original 1 and both rollers are rotated in a single body. The rotation of the roller 2 is transferred through a driving transferring member 6 to a position detecting mechanism 4. The roller 2 for detecting the position uses the member of the circular cross section constituted of the rigid body such as a metal as a core member 17 and at the surface, a rubber layer 16 such as a polyurethane rubber, silicone rubber and chloroprene rubber is covered. when the roller for detecting the position of such a constitution is used, the friction force of the roller and the original is larger, therefore, a slipping does not occur.
