PURPOSE:To miniaturize a tape loading mechanism by loading a tape to a rotary head device by the operation loading a cassette to a device main body to eliminate the need for a loading mechanism of tape guides. CONSTITUTION:A running path of a tape 2 is formed on a chassis 10 by using a tape guide group comprising roller guides 17, 19 and tile guides 16, 18 of a tape loading mechanism of a magnetic recording and a reproducing device. Further, tape guides 23, 24 are provided to be faced with an opening of a cassette 12 in loading the tape cassette 12 onto the chassis 11. I moving the sub- chassis 11 in a direction of a rotary head while the cassette 12 is loaded, the tape 2 of the cassette 12 is wound on a drum 5 of the rotary head device by the 1st and 2nd guide groups. Then the mechanism by a loading motor of the tape guide is not required, and the loading mechanism is miniaturized.
