PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance and corrosion resistance of a recording medium by providing a monomolecular film of an aliphat. compd. bonded by crosslinking or the built-up film thereof on a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic layer 9 consisting of a thin ferromagnetic metallic film or the like is formed on a substrate 1 consisting of a polyester film, etc., and the monomolecular film of the aliphat. compd. bonded by crosslinking or the built-up film 10 thereof is provided on the layer 9. The film 10 is obtd. by forming the film consisting of the polymerizable aliphat. compd. (e.g.: 2, 4-octadecadienoic acid) by a Langmuir-Blogette's technique, then irradiating UV rays, electron rays or gamma rays thereto to bond the same by crosslinking. The recording medium having a small coefft. of friction, a long still reproduction life and small deterioration rate is thereby obtd.
