The arc extinguishing device 30 of an SF6 insulated circuit breaker includes a pair of separable contacts 12, 14, an electromagnetic coil 16 for rotating the arc, and phase-shifting means cooperating with the coil 16 in order to preserve a sufficient magnetic field at a time favourable to the extinguishing of the arc, in this instance on the passing of the current to zero. The coil 16 is axially framed by a pair of short-circuited annuli 50, 52 intended to prevent any spatial deformation of the magnetic field within the arc zone 18, independently of the instant of the phase of the AC current to be interrupted.
