A brake with solid discs, especially for tractors, comprises a fixed casing 10 traversed by the shaft to be braked. Several friction discs 22 which can move axially are combined with the shaft in common rotation. Two pressure plates 16 are provided with a limited possibility of mutual displacement by rotation, which makes it possible to move them away from one another axially by means of a balls/ramps arrangement. When the pressure plates 16 move apart this puts the friction discs 22 in contact with the friction surfaces of the casing 10, with the pressure plates 16 and with an interposed disc 59 which may be coupled to one of the pressure plates 16, in order to increase the booster effect of the brake. The drive component 60 is produced in the form of a segment of a tube and acts, together with the cams 62, on the pressure plates 16 and the interposed disc 59. <IMAGE>
