PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer which is suitable as a functional material and obtained by packing a compound in a solution state into any space and polymerizing, by solidifying a diacetylene compound liquid approximately at room temperature under a freezing condition and irradiating the compound with light or high energy rays to carry out polymerization. CONSTITUTION:A diacetylene compound which is shown by the formula (R is CH2Cl, etc.), liquid at room temperature or liquefied by mild heating and has low melting point (e.g. <=40 deg.C) in a molten state is introduced to given space (e.g. capillary, gap between substrates, etc.), solidified and polymerized by irradiation with light or high energy rays to give the aimed polymer.
