The invention relates to a headrest intended to equip the upper part of a piece of furniture of the type comprising a backrest 1, against which the bust of the user, patient or traveller sitting or stretched out, leans, the said headrest comprising at least one cushion capable of being shaped in order to match the shape of the head of the user which it supports. This headrest is characterised in that it comprises a sphere 4, the surface of which has a multiplicity of cavities 11, the said sphere being fastened to the end of a rod 7 the other end of which is embedded in the backrest 1, at the upper part 3 of the latter, and in that the cushion or cushions 44 belong to an assembly 5 comprising raised means 18-20, which complement the cavities 11, and are able to interact with at least one of the said cavities in order to lock the said assembly 5 in the desired position with respect to the sphere 4.
