PURPOSE:To contrive a stable ink condition at the time of flying of an ink and a higher flying velocity, to prevent air from invading into an interface and contrive higher ink flight characteristics, by providing a surface modifying layer having a critical surface tension higher than that of the ink, on the surface of a heating means which makes contact with the ink in the vicinity of a flying point. CONSTITUTION:When an image signal inputted from a driving electrode 2 is H, a heat generating resistor 3 at a part in adhesion to the electrode generates heat. The heat is transmitted across a return circuit electrode 6 and through a surface modifying layer to an ink 11. Synchronously with this, a high-voltage pulse is applied between an opposed electrode 7 and the return circuit electrode 6. As a result, surface charges of opposite polarities appear respectively on the opposed electrode 7 and a liquid surface 11a of the ink, and a strong electrostatic attractive force acts therebetween. Since an ink droplet retains the surface charge it has before separating from the liquid surface, it flies toward the opposed electrode 7 while contiuing to be accelerated by an electrostatic field, and impinges on the surface of a recording paper 8 to form a dot-image. |
