PURPOSE:To quickly transfer data and to reduce the burden of a main CPU by saving preceding picture information in a buffer memory for picture operation when one picture is displayed over another. CONSTITUTION:Picture information is selected from a data memory 2 by a main CPU 1 and is stored in a frame memory 5 and is displayed on a monitor 8 by a CPU 4 for picture operation. When a part of another picture is displayed over the preceding picture, the CPU 4 for picture operation opens a gate 6 to save a part of data of the frame memory 5 into a buffer memory 7 for picture operation, and the main CPU 1 transfers a part of another picture from the data memory 2 to an idle part of the frame memory 5. As the result, a part of another picture information is put over a part of preceding picture information with respect to contents of the frame memory 5, and another picture is displayed over the preceding picture on a monitor 8. Memories are so constituted that the data transfer speed between memories 5 and 7 is higher than that between memories 2 and 5 for the purpose of performing the picture processing operation.
