The invention relates to a device for monitoring the speed of rotation, especially of fluid flow engines such as pumps, ventilators, etc., with a contactless pulse generator. A ferromagnet 4, to which a fixedly arranged data transducer 5 is assigned, is arranged on the shaft 2 of the fluid flow engine 1 as pulse generator. The data transducer 5 is connected by means of a connection cable 8 to a contactless electronic control device 19, which exhibits a device for start bridging of the fluid flow engine, a reporting device for wire breaks and probe breaks, an output for a light to report a disturbance in the speed of rotation, an output for switching off the fluid flow engine and optionally an output for a change-over contact. <IMAGE>
