Medicagenic acid and derivatives thereof of the general formula <IMAGE> wherein R1 is H or acetyl; R2 is H, acetyl, beta -glucopyranosyl or alpha -glucopyrano (1-4) beta -glucopyranosyl and R3 is H or C1-6 alkyl are useful antifungal agents in combination with suitable carriers or diluents. They are active against a wide variety of medically important fungi and can be administered parenteral, topical or by aerosol. The derivatives identified as G2 and F are novel compounds, viz. medicagenic acid 3-o- beta -D-glucopyranoside and medicagenic acid 3-o- beta -D-maltoside.
