PURPOSE:To enhance ink flight characteristics without reducing a gap of an opening part of an ink chamber while imposing ink flight conditions not severer and contrive higher printing accuracy and higher printing speed, by controlling an ink meniscus at the opening part. CONSTITUTION:With a pulse of voltage impressed between an energizing electrode array 3 selected according to an image signal and a return circuit electrode 2 by a power source 13, a heat generating resistor 4 generates heat according to the image signal, thereby lowering the surface tension, viscosity or the like of an ink at the heat generation part and raising the ink at that part. Simultaneously, a voltage pulse is applied between a counter electrode 9 and an induction electode 6 to generate a flying electric field, whereby the electric field is concentrated on the raised part of the ink and the ink is caused to fly from that part to adhere to recording paper 10, thereby performing printing. The gap l of an opening part 8a is set to be at least 1/2 times the pitch of heat generation. Accordingly, mis-flying of the ink will not occur, even where the quantity of heat transferred to the ink in contact with an opposite wall member 7 is small and an ink meniscus is concave at that part. |
