The invention relates to a method for synthesising sounds corresponding to animal cries. This method consists in carrying out harmonic analysis of the frequencies of these sounds, then in reproducing these sounds synthetically, by application of an electrical synthesis signal to an electro-acoustic device 4. It consists next in obtaining a square-wave synthesis signal, with variable frequencies and mark-space ratios according to the frequencies determined by analysis, and in fixing, for each period TA, TB ... etc. of the square-wave signal the mark-space ratio T1/T0 of this signal, as a function only of the harmonics which it is desirable to keep in the synthetic sound frequencies supplied by the electro-acoustic device. Application to the synthetic reproduction of alarm or distress cries, or warning sounds by animals.
