Thermostatic valve for the coolant of internal combustion engines

The invention proposes a thermostatic valve for the coolant of internal combustion engines which has a control device with two axially adjacent plate valves, one of which controls the flow from the inlet to the outlet and the other controls the flow from the inlet to the bypass for the coolant. Each plate valve has a supporting plate and a valve plate which is pressed axially against the latter, each of these plates consisting of ceramic material and both of them being turned by a common adjusting shaft which is acted upon directly by an electric stepping motor. In one direction of rotation, this motor operates against an opening spring acting in the opening direction of the first plate valve between the inlet and the outlet. If the stepping motor fails, this opening spring moves the adjusting shaft automatically into the open position and overheating of the internal combustion engine is then avoided.
