Method for heating a lock cylinder, especially on cylinder locks of vehicles, a heating element, especially resistance-heating element, attached to the lock cylinder being connected by means of a switching member to the on-board voltage system and being automatically isolated from the latter again after a heating time, characterised in that the temperature T prevailing on the heating element (11) or on the lock cylinder is recorded, in that, after a set or settable maximal operating temperature Tmax harmless to components and lubricants has been reached, further heating takes place intermittently in a controlled manner, in such a way that the heating is switched off when the temperature Tmax is reached and is switched on again when the temperature T on the heating element (11) or on the lock cylinder has fallen to a set or settable minimum operating temperature Tmin, and in that this intermittent heating is continued until the duration ( DELTA t2) of a cooling phase from the temperature Tmax to the temperature Tmin is equal to or greater than or the duration ( DELTA t1) of a heating phase from the temperature Tmin to the temperature Tmax is equal to or lower than a set or settable reference time ( DELTA tR).
