PURPOSE:To properly divide a document by using a position designating means which designates a desired position of a document produced electronically and a document separating means which separates a document into one or plural parts centering on the designated position. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 11 is set in a separation mode and an operator designates the separating positions of a document file for each page via a keyboard. The CPU 11 confirms that the number of separating positions are kept within the total number of pages of the document file and then registers the data on the pages of separating positions and the paging modes (continuous, individual, relative) to the corresponding memory areas of a separation data memory part 18. While a list of data on separating positions of the document file registered to the part 18 is displayed on a display 16 in case an end key of an input part 15 is pushed after input of the separating positions. At this time point the document file is separated in a designated mode and these separated document files are stored in a document file memory part 19.
