PURPOSE:To ensure the free selection of punctuation marks with no special mode switching action by providing a period/comma input keys to an input device for input of the periods and commas designated by the period and comma designating means through key operations. CONSTITUTION:When the Japanese word areas displayed through windows on a display 8 are selected, these selected areas are supplied in the form of combinations of periods and commas. This input information is written to a prescribed memory area of a RAM 3 and an input method is fixed. Then an end mark of the window is selected by a mouse 5. Thus the final contents written to the RAM 3 are registered to a keyboard distribution memory part 4. Then a pop-up menu is closed and the document editing is possible via a keyboard 9. In other words, the Japanese words are selected for input of periods and commas and therefore a period is supplied with each push of a period key together with a comma supplied for each push of a comma key respectively.
