A waterproof, paper-based container, e.g. for fruit juice, is made by placing a bottom plate (2c) in one end of a paper or cardboard tube (1c) and covering inner and outer surfaces of the tube with a heat- shrinkable plastics film (3c). Air is evacuated from the space between the two walls of the double-walled tube of plastics film (3c) and the tube (1c) is sealed in an airtight fashion within the plastics film (3c). The film additionally is sealed on the bottom plate (2c). After filling this container its top may be closed with a rolled- on metal lid and heating of the container in a sterilising retort will cause shrinkage of the film which will eliminate wrinkles. <IMAGE> |
